Undertow is a one-of-one steel wave, hand-cut and hand-finished, built up in four separate layers of 14-gauge steel stacked and joined to give the water real depth — the barrel stands forward off the wall, the foam breaks past the top edge, and the whole piece throws its own shadow. No paint and no color: the finish is the metal itself, worked by hand. Each zone of the wave is ground and sanded in a different direction and texture — the barrel face smooth and flowing, the churning water in long sweeping grain, the foam choppy and broken — so light moves across the surface as you move past it. Torch-cut edges are left raw where they read as spray and foam, cleaned where the piece squares off. Hand cut, hand ground, hand assembled, sealed in satin clear. First piece in the Tidal series.
